Soap making is a fun and rewarding DIY project that allows you to create beautiful, customized soaps right at home. Whether you’re crafting them for personal use, as gifts, or even with a creative touch—like embedding small toys—homemade soap is an easy and enjoyable craft. With just a few steps, you’ll have your own unique bars ready to use.

Step-by-Step Soap Making Guide

  1. Chop the Soap Base – Start by cutting your soap base into small cubes. This helps it melt evenly and quickly, ensuring a smooth consistency.

  2. Heat in the Microwave – Place the cubes in a microwave-safe container and heat in 30-second intervals, stirring in between to prevent overheating. (You can melt the soap in its original container, but I suggest doing it in smaller batches)

  3. Add Essential Oils – Once the soap is fully melted, stir in your preferred essential oils for a natural fragrance and added skin benefits.

  4. Pour into Moulds – Carefully pour the mixture into prepared soap moulds. If the kiddos are helping, this is the time to add their fun items before you pour in the melted soap.

  5. Remove Bubbles – Lightly spray the top with isopropyl alcohol to eliminate bubbles and ensure a smooth finish.

  6. Let Them Set – Allow the soaps to harden completely before removing them from the moulds.

  7. Wrap and Store – Once fully set, wrap the bars in baking paper and store them away for as long as possible. The longer they cure, the longer they will last when used in the shower or bath.

Safety Tip

Soap making is simple, but always keep children away from hot surfaces during the process. However, they can still get involved by helping to choose colours, essential oils, and fun items to embed in the soap.

With just a few basic steps, you can create beautiful, long-lasting soaps tailored to your preferences. Give it a try, and enjoy the satisfaction of making your own handcrafted bars!
